Mr. Lyden's book covers an amazingly broad range of subject matter - including practical tips on resume building (minus all the cliches we've all heard hundreds of times), getting interviews, doing well at interviews, networking, and more.
At first, I was slightly worried at the fact that it was only 90 pages, but after reading it, I can see why. Unlike many, many books these days, this one (thankfully) lacked all the fluff and filler publishers use as padding. The fact that he's a recruiter at Boeing and not just a book writer definitely shows through.
After you read the book, you may feel like a lot of the things are common sense - but that has more to do with how well everything is explained.
If anyone is in the market for gifts for college students, you can't go wrong here... it's probably not a book that most college students would impulse buy with a bookstore gift card, but once it's in their hand, they'll definitely read it.
If any college event organizers are scouting for guest speakers, definitely consider Mr. Lyden. Mark Lydens book "College Students Do This! Get Hired! has turned my frustrating job search experience into a truly rewarding venture. Just 6 weeks after applying his techniques starting with the restructuring of my resume to the honing of my interview skills through "mock interview" sessions at the career services office of my alma mater, I have landed a position in the company of my dreams.
When I signed on for his presentation at the university, it was with some apprehension as this just did not seem like something that would benefit me. After all, although I am not working in my field, I am a PhD candidate and strive to read only writings of a scholarly nature. Afterwards though, I thought about everything that he had said, especially the part where he guided a student in formatting an interview question employing the use of "Situation, Behaviour and Outcome". I went home and ordered the book and because it is such an easy read, immediately read it from cover to cover and started applying his techniques.
Thanks Mark for this contribution which has greatly aided me and which will aid other college students in their job search. I highly recommend and endorse it.

| Being a recent college graduate, I found "College Students: DO THIS! GET HIRED!" to be a great tool for students at any point in their college career (Undergraduate, Graduate or PhD) looking for an internship or full time employment. From my personal experience, most college students do not have the time to read lengthy books on how to land a job. This book is a quick read and an excellent reference due to Mark's straight-forward, right to the facts writing style.
