 | Great book Nov 8, 2009 |
I just finished this book and am watching the free seminar that goes along with it. I have read a lot of career-related books in my day and must say I was very impressed with this one. Her advice is very sound and she is continually inspiring her readers.
In addition to addressing many of the "usual" topics approached in job-hunting books like resumes and networking (which she does a very good job with), she approaches topics like telecommuting, making good use of social media, work/life balance issues, freelancing, self-employment, and starting your own business. This is definitely one of the most comprehensive books I've read on the topic, and yet it remains very concise. She does a good job with each topic too; I like her overall approach. For example, she does a really good job guiding readers through anticipating objections to proposals like getting a raise, asking for flextime, etc.
If you're looking for a new job (or are starting to get nervous about your current job), this book is an absolute must-read. | | | | STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND ORDER THIS BOOK!!!! Oct 9, 2009 |
As a journalist, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting and interviewing Tory Johnson at a book signing in Chesapeake, Virginia. I found her to be warm, professional, bright and someone that genuinely cared about the welfare of other people. It was an honor to speak to someone who has dedicated her time to help to make this world a better place.
"Fired to Hired" without question is one of the most comprehensive and helpful tools out in the market right now specifically geared toward helping anyone out of work, looking to change careers or start something new as an entrepreneur.
In her book, Tory Johnson not only takes a prospective job-seeker through a series of events and processes to become gainfully employed, but she also informs them on how to become a better person in this world. -- That is a perfect combination for success.
Tory Johnson writes in a way that not only inspires, but reassures the reader they they can do whatever it is they set their minds to do.
This book is practical and unassuming while at the same time is able to bring the reader to a point of absolute empowerment. It is impossible to read Tory's book without feeling as though you can conquer the world.
WITHOUT QUESTION - THIS BOOK IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE ABSOLUTE BETTER! SO STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND ORDER THIS BOOK! | | | | Great book for job-seekers. Very inspirational too! Oct 5, 2009 |
I had the pleasure of meeting Tory at her book signing in NYC and I just finished this book.
She's penned a comprehensive and upbeat book for job seekers. I particularly liked her ideas about working from home and networking -- not to mention her suggestions of music to get you going. Every job-seeker should read this book.
I'm personally working with some job-seekers from her book signing and I look forward to using the ideas from her book. Thanks, Tory. | | | | Real and Relevant Material!! Oct 2, 2009 |
| Tory wrote this book in a very casual, person-to-person tone. Her topics are real and relevant to everyone who is experiencing first-hand the effects of global economic downsizing or just simply unemployed for any reason! She inspires great ideas around taking action with your career situation, how to use social media in your job search, thinking deeper into the compensation negotiation segment and a fantastic "Resource" section to sum it up @ the end. Very well-written, thanks Tory! | | | | Excellent and Encouraging Job Search Tool Sep 29, 2009 |
| This book brings very specific instruction on how to do things the right way. I searched and read many articles, a few books and took a few self-study courses early in my job search, but I found Tory's book to be the most helpful. It is written on the "how to do it and practical level" rather than a theoretical level. This book has also encouraged me to stay in the race and to not give up. This book will serve those seeking a job, changing careers, or re-entering the workforce. | | | Write your own review about Fired to Hired: Bouncing Back from Job Loss to Get to Work Right Now
